We were stuck and didn't know where to start. They simplified everything and they helped us make choices on everything. They took something that usually takes 20 different places and did it all in one place.

Just the fact that we didn't feel pushed or sold on anything, they let us decide and take our time.

In addition to helping customers choose the right materials for their remodeling projects, the company utilizes its contractor’s license to remodel kitchens and bathrooms, build room additions, and provide other construction services for residential clients in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

Co-owner Eric Aslami says Today’s Kitchen & Bath’s customer-oriented approach to remodeling has been a key factor in its success. “We pay close attention to our clients, listen to their wants and needs, and guide them through every step of their projects. Comparative Summary

Maintaining customer satisfaction is a crucial aspect of any business, but it’s even more important for kitchen and bathroom remodelers that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award. For Today’s Kitchen & Bath, the key to keeping customers happy is simple: provide professional, hands-on guidance throughout every step of the remodeling process. “Most people don’t really know where to start with a kitchen or bathroom remodel, so we help them with everything from designs to picking out materials,” says co-owner Eric Aslami. “We give our clients honest opinions and treat their homes as if they were our own, which they really appreciate.”

Today’s Kitchen & Bath has been offering cabinets, countertops and flooring products at its Livermore showroom since 2014. In addition to helping customers choose materials for their remodeling projects, the company utilizes its contractor’s license to remodel kitchens and bathrooms, build room additions, and provide other residential construction services for clients in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

Unlike less experienced contractors that take a “one size fits all” approach to every job, Today’s Kitchen & Bath works to give each client exactly what they want and even helps them explore options they didn’t realize they had. “A lot of people want to install cabinets during a kitchen remodel, but we go deeper and determine if they also want things like spice racks or Lazy Susans,” explains Mr. Aslami. “We can also create 3D designs so our clients can see what the finished products will look like in their homes, and they’re welcome to peruse our showroom to see which of those products they like the best.”

As a family-owned and operated company, Today’s Kitchen & Bath is able to focus on its clients’ needs and be flexible when it comes to designing within their budgets. “The size of a customer’s budget doesn’t matter to us—we’ll work with them to get them exactly what they want,” says Mr. Aslami. “Ultimately, our goal is to provide them with high-quality work that they can enjoy for many years.”

Industry Info

Kitchen and bathroom trends are leaning toward low-maintenance finishes and longevity in design.

Kitchen and bathroom renovations aren’t cheap, and most homeowners will only take on one or two remodeling projects in their lifetime. So, it makes sense that smart consumers are looking for ways to maximize their remodeling budgets in ways that will benefit them for the long term.

Less maintenance, more convenience
Having a beautiful home is important to many people, but keeping kitchens and bathrooms clean is becoming a huge design consideration as well. According to Eric Aslami, co-owner of Today’s Kitchen & Bath in Livermore, new designs that focus on reducing maintenance are bringing beauty and convenience together. “For example, granite countertops are becoming less popular than quartz,” he says. “It’s mainly aesthetic—you get a marble look without paying a marble price. But there are maintenance benefits as well. You don’t have to seal quartz and you don’t need to use a specific product to clean it.”

Bathrooms are seeing material changes, too. “A lot of people are going with bigger tiles with closer joints,” says Mr. Aslami. “Bigger tiles can avoid up to 70 percent of grout, which makes for less maintenance. People are also going with porcelain that’s already sealed and staying away from travertine floors. Everyone is going for lower maintenance.”

Design longevity for happier, healthier living
As the population ages, homeowners are starting to think about their needs for the coming decades. Aging in place is becoming a trend, and designers and remodelers are responding. “A lot of people are adding grab bars and benches in the bathroom,” says Mr. Aslami. “We’re also seeing a lot more ADA bathrooms, linear drains and walk-in showers so people don’t need to step over shower pans.”

While accessibility options may add to the cost of a bathroom remodeling project, they can also add a lot of value and comfort while giving homeowners the confidence to safely stay in their homes while they age, which makes them a smart investment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long will it take to complete my project?
A: It depends on a lot of factors, but we’ll give you a time estimate once we determine everything your job needs.

Q: How will you access my home while I’m at work?
A: We’ll put a lock box outside of your home so you can just lock the door when you go to work. We’ll also let you know who will be working on your home each day.

Q: When will I be expected to pay for the work?
A: We’ll give you a schedule that includes the different phases of payment. That usually includes the initial down payment and certain points of the job like cabinet and flooring installation.

Q: Can I supply my own materials?
A: Yes, you can supply materials like specialty lights, faucets and appliances if you want. We’ll give you a list of materials we need so it doesn’t slow down the job.

Q: Will you help me understand how to stay within building codes?
A: Yes. Sometimes, renovation projects can trigger code requirements, but we know all those codes and we’ll bring everything to your attention beforehand. For example, we’ll look at your electrical panel and tell you if you need dedicated circuits or panel upgrades before we add appliances.

Eric Aslami: A Family Connection

By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter

LIVERMORE — When asked how he became involved in the remodeling industry, Eric Aslami cites a family connection. “Growing up, I had family members who were involved in a variety of trades, including flooring and remodeling,” he explains. “I started out doing kitchen design and transitioned to working in the field, which I liked because it was more hands-on. After five years of working with my cousin, I acquired my general contractor’s license. From there, he and I decided to join forces. He was doing flooring and I was doing kitchen and bathroom remodeling, so it just made sense to combine our abilities into one company.”

Today, as owner of Today’s Kitchen & Bath, Eric says his favorite part of his job is seeing the fruits of his labor. “I enjoy watching the transition from beginning to end, culminating with the completed project. It feels good to see what we were able to accomplish, and of course, the reaction of the customer when they see it as well.”

A resident of Mountain House (where he lives with his wife, Freshta, and their six children), Eric spends the bulk of his time outside of work with his family. “My kids are involved in sports, so I enjoy attending their soccer or football games and watching them compete,” he details. “We also have a big extended family, so there are lots of barbecues and birthday parties. Basically, at any given time, we can call like 20 people and there’s a party an hour later.” Eric and his family also like getting away on vacation to destinations like Mexico and Lake Tahoe.

Regarding a professional philosophy, Eric espouses the importance of treating others respectfully. “The way I see it, you have to treat everyone with respect, whether they’re six years old or 60. Just treat everyone equally and don’t do anyone wrong—if you can do that, everything will go smoothly from that point on.”

When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Eric says he’d take some time to meditate on the future. “I’d probably take a long vacation—just get away for a couple of weeks and figure out what’s next. I have plenty of life left to live, so I’d need to figure out what the rest of it is going to look like.”

Ask Me Anything!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: The Maldives.

Q: What’s your favorite local restaurant?
A: Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Walnut Creek.

Q: What was your first job?
A: I worked at Taco Bell.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?
A: Stay inside and watch a movie.

Q: What kinds of movies do you like?
A: Mainly action movies. I like the Marvel movies a lot.

  • Planning for a Kitchen Remodel

LIVERMORE — When planning for a kitchen remodel, it’s important to do some research and figure out what direction you want to go in regarding design and budget. Here are three things to investigate:

    1. Current trends
Find out which kitchen styles and products are currently in vogue and see if there are any you want to incorporate into your remodel.
    2. Value added
Research which aspects of the remodel are most likely to add to your home’s resale value. This will help guide you in allocating your budget.
    3. Timeless style
While it’s good to be aware of current remodeling trends, you should also consider the long term and think about style choices that will age well over time.

    Phases of a Kitchen Remodel
As you anticipate your kitchen remodel, it’s helpful to be aware of how the work will be executed. Most kitchen remodeling projects consist of a series of phases, typically completed in the following order:

    • Demolition
    • Electrical and plumbing
    • Drywall
    • Countertops, cabinetry and flooring

LIVERMORE — Eric Aslami: What we tell all of our clients what you should do before a remodel is research current trends, what will add value to your house, and timeless style. That’s the most important three.

And what to expect during your remodel is specific phases. The demo goes first, then electrical and plumbing, drywall comes after, and then cabinets, countertops, and then the flooring. That’s the main parts of the remodel project.
