Victor Grajeda Jr.: Like Father, Like Son
By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter
VALLEJO — Long before it became his professional livelihood, Victor Grajeda Jr. received an early introduction to the construction industry from his father. “My dad taught me to work with my hands at a young age,” he remembers. “We started building houses together when I was a teenager, and I would spend my summer breaks from school working with him. After high school, I took some time to travel and do photography, but ultimately I returned to working construction alongside my dad.”
Today, as superintendent of VMG Renovation, Victor says his favorite part of his job is the satisfaction of pleasing clients. “My favorite part is turning over the house to the customer after we’ve completed their project, because they’re always so happy. It’s very satisfying to walk away knowing we did a great job for them.”
A resident of Sonoma (where he lives with his wife, Audrey), Victor spends his time outside of work on a variety of pastimes. “I love the outdoors, so hiking, camping and backpacking are some of my favorite activities, especially at national parks like Yosemite and Zion. I also enjoy rock climbing, both indoors and outdoors.” Additionally, Victor does volunteer work for his church and helps maintain its various properties.
In regard to a professional philosophy, Victor cites a vital lesson passed down from his father. “One of the most important things I learned from my dad is to be honest with customers and look out for their best interests,” he explains. “We always try to guide our customers toward making good decisions, whether it’s choosing a higher quality product or finding ways to save them money on their projects. We’re honest and upfront with them every step of the way, and in the end, it results in a finished product that everyone is happy with.”
When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Victor says he’d take a long road trip. “I’d jump in my camper and drive across the United States. Along with seeing the sights, I would stop at different national parks and spend some time hiking and camping.”
