Founded in 1884, Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA) is a national trade association dedicated to promoting high standards of excellence in the painting and decorating industry. Today, with more than 2,000 members throughout North America, PDCA continues to benefit contractors and consumers alike by endorsing professional ethics and education.

Industry standards
PDCA established its Industry Standards to protect contractors and consumers by defining proper procedures and workmanship expectations. The PDCA Industry Standards also serve as a time-saving resource for contractors when it comes to composing work bids and contracts.

Contractor education
In accordance with its commitment to promoting industry excellence, PDCA provides its members with education courses both onsite and online. PDCA members can earn accreditation through the organization’s Contractor College program, which is carefully crafted to encompass every facet of the painting and decorating trades. Contractor College offers contractors a flexible resource for acquiring valuable tools and knowledge, including the components that are necessary to build high-performance contracting businesses.

Scholarships
Formed in 1978, the A.E. Robert Friedman-PDCA Scholarship Fund benefits high school seniors and college-age students seeking to further their education. Since its establishment, more than $310,000 has been contributed to the fund, primarily by PDCA members’ individual donations. Scholarship applicants must be sponsored by an active PDCA member in good standing.

Events
Held over the course of four days, the annual PDCA Painting & Decorating Expo is the painting and decorating industry’s premier learning and networking conference. Attended by more than 500 professional contractors, the event consists of 40-plus educational sessions, a large trade show and business development events.
