Q: How much will it cost to clean my house?
A: It depends on the size of your home and how many bedrooms and bathrooms there are, but we’ll provide you with a free estimate that covers everything you’re looking for. We can tailor our services to your specific cleaning needs and charge you accordingly. We also offer a fixed hourly rate for one-time cleanings.

Q: Will you tell me when my cleaning team will arrive?
A: Yes. We try to give a two- to four-hour window for when we’re going to arrive. There are a lot of variables in the cleaning business—a job might go long, the traffic might be bad or other issues might impact scheduling. We can give you a better window of time on the day of the cleaning, and we have GPS on all of our vehicles so we can let you know our ETA if exact timing is important to you.

Q: Will you remind me when my appointment is coming up?
A: Yes. We use automated text, voicemail and email messages to remind our clients that a cleaning team is coming to their location the next day. We can also schedule these messages based on your preferences.

Q: Do you clean windows?
A: We clean the insides of windows, not the outsides, and we’re only able to work on normal-sized windows. We’re not a window service company, but we try to accommodate our customers as much as possible. For liability reasons, we can’t work on a step ladder that’s more than two steps high, but that’s high enough for the windows in most homes.

Q: Do you use safe cleaning products?
A: Yes. All of our cleaning products are safe to use around children and animals. We don’t use strong chemicals, so there isn’t a chemical smell when we’re done cleaning. We can use bleach in bathrooms, but we have other products if you’d prefer those.

Sandy Willis: Entrepreneurial Aptitude

SAN JOSE — Sandy Willis has always had a penchant for entrepreneurship. Even in the midst of an economic recession, she was able to find a diamond in the rough. “Back in 2009, my husband, Bill, and I were looking to buy a business that had positive cash flow,” she recounts. “We’ve been entrepreneurs for quite some time—prior to that point, we’d owned three different coffee shops and sold them. We came across a Molly Maid franchise in San Jose and it met our criteria, so we bought it. About three years later, the owner of the neighboring franchise in Cupertino/Saratoga wanted to sell, so we ended up buying their territory and expanding.”

Today, as president of Molly Maid of S. Silicon Valley, Sandy says her favorite part of her job is the independence. “I like the freedom that comes with being my own boss. Besides setting my own hours, I’m able to go the extra mile to take care of my employees and customers as needed.”

A resident of Morgan Hill, Sandy spends her time outside of work on a variety of active pastimes. “Bill and I enjoy hiking, playing golf, and going on vacation when we get the chance,” she details. “We like beaches, so Mexico is a favorite vacation spot of ours. At home, I enjoy cooking and trying my hand at new recipes.” Additionally, Sandy takes time to keep up with her and Bill’s three adult children.

Regarding a professional philosophy, Sandy espouses the importance of employee care. “We have about 30 employees, and we try to create a nice working environment by paying them a decent wage and keeping them busy. Most of them are mothers, so I try to make sure they’re able to support themselves and their families. That’s definitely one of the most rewarding parts of my job.”

When asked what she’d do if she were to retire tomorrow, Sandy says she’d travel. “I’ve traveled a fair amount in my life—after I graduated from college, I lived in Europe for a year, and I’ve also been to places like Mexico, Australia, and Canada. So, if I were to retire, I wouldn’t mind doing some more traveling, both abroad and domestically. I’d like to visit New Zealand and also spend some time checking out the East Coast of the U.S., especially the New England area.”

    SAN JOSE — Sandy Willis: So, we want to clean and disinfect your house. The most important thing to do first is you must clean the surface first. So, because if you don’t clean the surface first with soap and water, the disinfectant’s not going to work. Most likely when you clean it, use soap and water, and that will get rid of like 97 percent of all the germs. And then when you disinfect, that will get up to the 99.99 percent.

    So, after you clean it with warm soap and water, you will spray the area with your disinfectant. And let it sit. You need to look at your instructions. It’ll tell you how long it should sit. It just could save between five to ten minutes. If you don’t let it sit during that time, it will not disinfect, because the disinfectant has to take that time to do its breakdown and do its job to get rid of all the germs. And then after that time, then you can wipe it up. And then you will have a clean and disinfected area.
