Amie Prendergast: Relational Rewards
By James Florence, Diamond Certified Program Reporter
HAYWARD — Following a career in the technology sector, Amie Prendergast switched gears to become a stay-at-home mom. Years later, when her husband, Pat, expressed a desire to switch from banking to a more service-oriented line of work, she knew exactly how he felt. “In my prior career, I was a product manager for a software company, and Pat was in investment banking, so neither of us had ever worked in a customer service-oriented business setting,” she explains. “We both wanted to get involved in a profession where we could serve customers directly, so we started looking for a business to purchase. When we came across Precision Garage Door Services of the Bay Area, it fit the bill. Not only was it a customer service-based business, it was locally owned as well. Plus, just about everyone has a garage door, so we saw a lot of opportunity.”
Today, Amie says her favorite part of her job is interacting with Precision Garage Door’s staff and customers. “We have a good group of employees, and we really enjoy working with them. Of course, we also like talking with and getting to know our customers, and it’s very rewarding to receive positive feedback.”
A resident of the East Bay, Amie expresses her appreciation for the diverse character of the Bay Area landscape. “I like the fact that the Bay Area has major cosmopolitan areas like San Francisco, but also lots of places where you can enjoy the outdoors and get in touch with nature,” she says. “I also like being close to the ocean. It’s just a beautiful place to live.”
Outside of work, Amie says her primary pursuit is spending time with her family, including Pat and their three daughters, Madlynn, Alison, and Charlotte. Additionally, she likes to stay healthy with activities like working out and cooking.
In her life and career, Amie emphasizes the importance of relationships. “It’s all about maintaining good relationships with people, both in your personal life and in business,” she explains. “In either case, good relationships are based on honesty and trust, so that’s something we both practice at our company and strive to instill in our children.”
When asked the first thing she’d do if she were to retire tomorrow, Amie says she’d see the world. “I’d definitely travel more, starting in Europe. We’ve actually been there before, but I’ve wanted to go back ever since.”
